The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing gets the glorious 668-HP V-8 and a manual

The sedan starts at $84,990 and will be the final gasoline-powered model of Cadillac's impressive V performance sub-brand. Cadillac introduced the CT5-V Blackwing performance sedan, which is equipped with a 668-horsepower .supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine and a manual transmission

The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

These Blackwing models, CT5-V and CT4-V, will be the last gasoline-powered models in the
Cadillac V series product line, as the brand will switch to electric vehicles. Cadillac said that they may be the last in their product line, but they are also V-shaped with the strongest tracking capability ever

Forgot to change the name for a second. In other words, this is the last era of gasoline-powered VS. Let us live in the moment and enjoy the fact that the most powerful Cadillac ever equipped with a manual transmission. Yes, the CT5-V Blackwing's 668-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine comes standard with a six-speed Tremec TR6060 transmission from Camaro

However, with this best news, it will also bring bad news. Cadillac boss Rory Harvey confirmed that the CT5-V Blackwing fighter (same level as the CT4-V black wing fighter released at the same time) will be the last gasoline-powered V-type car. And from 2004 CTS-V. This does not mean that the V is out of power, but it will become electric next time

The Performance

Although this highest performance CT5 is an improvement of the previous CTS-V, the model name and performance name have changed this time. CTS has become CT5, and the former top V nickname has become V Blackwing. This is the transition from the previous V Sport to V to the current V and V Blackwing. Although Blackwing's name was originally the label for Cadillac's twin-turbocharged V-8 engine (powering the short-lived CT6 and CT6-V), the company now says that this only means "the pinnacle of Cadillac performance"

It seems silly to change the nomenclature now, right before another total revamp to electric power. But, also, who cares what it's called? We won't look a gift V-8-powered, shift-it-yourself supersedan in the mouth

It seems foolish to change the name now, just before the electricity is fully transformed again. But, who else really cares about its name? We will not see V-8 power in our mouths, the gift of self-conversion

The Engine

The supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine returns to the incredible performance of the previous CTS-V, with improved intake and exhaust performance. This time output has increased from 640 hp and 630 pound-feet to 668 and 659 feet. Although Eaton’s four-blade turbocharger can still displace 1.7 liters, it now has a smaller diameter rotor to improve responsiveness. Each engine was handmade by a technician at the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and signed each of his or her works

Cadillac promises to provide 3.7 seconds from zero speed to 60 mph and provide a 10-speed automatic transmission that can quickly shift, although this is not faster than before. Our fastest speed from the CTS-V is 3.5 seconds to 60 mph, and the CT5-V Blackwing is said to weigh just over 4,100 pounds. We hope to get similar results. Using this manual, CT5-V Blackwing will slow down. No one cares

After the previous CTS-V only operated automatically, the manual achieved a surprising victory with speed matching and no upshift functions. Perhaps it can help solve the problem. This is a high demand for the two generations of the long-standing manual CTS-V-especially the passenger wagon variant, which continues to appreciate and trade at a price even higher than its original list price. According to product marketing manager Ken Kornas, the expected adoption rate of the CT5 manual is as high as 25%

Cadillac said that these "black wings" are the most tracking-capable models in the company's history, which means that something comes from the Nürburgring guided missile production line for nearly a decade. Brembo has six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers (available in gray, blue, red, or bronze), shrouded in a 15.7-inch front rotor, which is the largest Cadillac engine ever. The carbon-ceramic rotor was first introduced, and its weight was reduced by 53 pounds. There is also an electronic limited-slip differential, 19-inch forged wheels, gearbox and rear differential cooler, and the fourth-generation Cadillac's impressive magnetorheological shock absorber

The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss, the sizes are 275/35ZR-19 and 305/30ZR-19, respectively, and are 10mm wider than the front and rear CTS-V. However, their performance may be more like Michelin's Cup 2 tires, because Cadillac said that most tires developed specifically for Blackwing use R compound rubber

The Interior Design

There are available carbon fiber back seats in the car, and the red and white stitching is said to be inspired by the curb of the track. The steering wheel has a number plate to identify the car structure and gearbox in the black wing sequence. The built-in video, audio, and data recorder (General Motors calls it a performance data recorder) are back, and the 12-inch digital instrument cluster appears to have gained many of the features of the Corvette. There is also a new steering wheel switch that can adjust performance traction management (PTM), which is an amazing idea

Previously, the driver had to know to double-click the "Stability Control Off" button in the "Tracking" mode to enter Cadillac (and Corvette)'s excellent high-performance traction and stability control programming mode, and then use the mode switch to switch among them. We hope this switch can be migrated back to Corvette

The Price

The CT5-V Blackwing starts at $84,990, which is $36,200 higher than the CT5-V, but it is thousands of dollars cheaper than the previous CTS-V. Although this is more than $20,000 lower than the price of the BMW M5 or Mercedes-AMG E63, the new positioning of the CT5 means that this time the price is slightly higher than the starting point of the M3 and C63. Cadillac is now available for pre-order and delivery will begin in the summer of 2021
