What's new for the Cadillac CT5 in 2022?

The CT5-V Blackwing variant, which sports the most powerful Cadillac engine ever: a 668-hp supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, is the big news for 2022. It also has a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission, magnetic ride suspension, a reinforced construction, carbon-ceramic brakes, and 19-inch summer performance tyres. The Blackwing has a 3.4-second 0-60 mph time and a top speed of more than 200 mph.

The CT5 will also receive new safety measures in 2022. Pedestrian detection is included in the automatic emergency braking system, and rear parking sensors and a rear-seat reminder are standard.

With low front and rear overhangs and a bold and beautiful version of Cadillac's shield grille, the CT5 is a stylish fastback. Soft-touch surfaces with wood, aluminium, or carbon-fiber trim provide a sumptuous and sporty ambiance, while a pair of digital panels for the instrument cluster and infotainment system provide a futuristic vibe. The CT5 can comfortably carry four persons thanks to its mid-size dimensions, although the trunk is on the short side for the class.

Three engines are available to buyers: The standard engine is a 237-hp 2.0-liter turbo-4; an optional twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 produces 335 hp in the Premium Luxury model and 360 hp in the CT5-V; and the supercharged V-8s help drivers tear up the tarmac. Except for the CT5-V Blackwing, which comes with a manual transmission, all are equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency peaks at 27 mpg combined and declines as power increases, peaking at 15 mpg combined for the thirsty Blackwing.

Thanks to a robust, well-balanced construction inherited from the CT5's predecessor, the CTS, every CT5 handles well and provides a comfortable ride. All bar the CT5-V Blackwing come standard with rear-wheel drive, and purchasers can choose for a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.

What will the Cadillac CT5 cost in 2022?

The CT5 is available in five trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, V-Series, and V-Series Blackwing. A CT5 Luxury starts at roughly $38,000 and goes up to $84,990 for a CT5-V Blackwing with extras, which can reach $100,000. Expect to pay in the mid-$40,000s for a luxury-oriented CT5 or the mid-$50,000s for a sportier CT5-V, depending on your preferences.

Synthetic leather upholstery, power front seats, a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 18-inch alloy wheels are all standard on the base CT5.

Is the Cadillac CT5 of 2022 a good-looking vehicle?

The CT5 features a sleek fastback silhouette and a stylish variation of the brand's shield grille. The layout of the cabin is modern and well-organized. We give it a 7 here, with one point for the interior and one for the exterior.

Despite its fastback appearance, which suggests a hatchback, the CT5 is a sedan. The character lines throughout the bottom half of the body, the flared fenders, and the short front and rear overhangs all work, but the rear window line resolves oddly. That doesn't take away from the overall sporty look.

A pair of carbon-fiber packages control airflow in the Blackwing model. A rear spoiler, front splitter, and wheel well deflectors are included in the base model, while the second kit adds rocker panel mouldings, a grille header, and a rear diffuser. These elements only add to the car's athletic appearance, which is further emphasised by the low-profile 19-inch wheels and lower ride height.

The CT5 places all of the controls within easy reach on the inside. A techy feel is created by the standard 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, while optional diamond-tufted leather upholstery and carbon-fiber or wood trim add elegance and sportiness. We favour grey or brown upholstery over black since black might be boring.

Is the CT5 equipped with all-wheel drive?

All CT5 models save the CT-5-V Blackwing come standard with rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available for an additional $2,500.
