The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq With Its Rivals

In this article, we'll look at two of the Lyriq's most likely rivals: the Jaguar I-Pace and the Tesla Model X.

Cadillac, like many other automakers today, is pursuing electrification. Indeed, the GM division is aiming to produce only EVs by 2030 (five years earlier than General Motors), and it will all begin with the Lyriq. This luxury electric SUV is set to hit the market in the spring of 2022.

The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq

The Cadillac Lyriq is expected to be available with dual-motor AWD and single-motor RWD. Its driving range will most likely be around 300 miles, owing to a 100 kWh battery. More specifically, the Lyriq is expected to produce 340 horsepower and accelerate to 60 mph in four and a half seconds, give or take a few tenths of a second. The Lyriq will have a massive 33-inch infotainment display and an AKG 19-speaker sound system on the inside.

Jaguar I-Pace

While the I-Pace has only one trim level for 2022 (it's unclear if more variants will be added for 2023), this single-model vehicle has plenty of what you'd expect from an electric car, including 394 hp and 512 lb-ft of torque. According to Car and Driver, the 2022 I-Pace was enjoyable to drive, but it had uneven braking when coming to a stop.

It has an EPA-estimated range of 253 miles with its 90 kWh battery. So, while the I-Pace outperforms the Lyriq in terms of power, the Cadillac reigns supreme in this category. The I-Pace, predictably, has a luxurious interior with numerous notable features such as a heads-up display and four-zone climate control.

The I-price, Pace's on the other hand, is a bit of a concern. The Lyriq is available in a $59,995 Luxury trim, with the next up Premium Luxury model expected to cost around $70,000, with a single high-quality trim worth $71,050. Cadillac will also offer Sport and Platinum variants for around $80,000 and $90,000, respectively. We wouldn't be surprised if the Lyriq charges faster than the I-Pace.

With all things considered and no bias toward any specific Lyriq trim, we'd have to say that it appears to be a tie between these two vehicles, but we'll have to wait and see how the Lyriq actually performs when details are confirmed and it hits the market in 2022.

Tesla Model X

Despite increased competition, Tesla remains at the forefront of the EV sector. But, while we're on the subject of competitors, how does the Model X stack up against the Lyriq? To begin, the 2022 Model X starts around $92,000, and it's far from the best in its class, with many people preferring the more affordable Rivian R1T, Lucid Motors Air, and Porsche Taycan. Indeed, the Model S (which is available for a comparable price) is arguably the king of its class.

However, for $92,500, you get over 1,000 hp and a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds (two stats that leave both the Lyriq and I-Pace in the dust). In terms of range, the Model X has a range of about 360 miles or 340 miles with the Plaid edition. The Model X has a 17-inch infotainment display on the inside, while the I-Pace only has a 10-inch touchscreen and another 5.5-inch display for the cabin climate. There are no doubts about it: the Lyriq's infotainment system is unrivalled.

With so much power and acceleration, the Model X is undoubtedly the best of these three potential rivals (actual current rivals if we're talking about the Model X vs the I-Pace), but its price tag may simply be a no-go for many consumers, in which case the I-Pace or the entry-level Lyriq would be a better choice.
